Cat Toys DIY: Five instructions for cat toys made of wool

Cat Toys made of Wool

Cat Toys made of Wool

Is your cat very playful and can never get enough of great toys? Most cats love it when you keep them busy somehow. Boredom can lead to cats’ behavioral problems, in the long run, so you should definitely keep them busy.

But because you can’t wave a laser pointer around all day either so your cat can chase after the great light, you’ll need another option.

Learn here how to make great cat toys from wool yourself!

Why cat toys are so important

Cats are rather known as loners. And in fact, they don’t need a large pack, like dogs or wolves. But that doesn’t mean they don’t need something to do. You know this from yourself, or do you like to be bored? Cats feel the same way, even if it often seems that their days consist of eating, grooming and sleeping.

But they want to be entertained, too, and sometimes it’s just not enough to cuddle them once a day – although you should do that, too, of course. However, experts believe that cats should let off steam at least once a day to release pent-up energy and tension.

If your cat is allowed outside regularly, this is less of a problem than if you keep an indoor-only cat. Here it would be best if you had some toys ready.

A simple ball of wool as a toy

Okay, this suggestion is a bit non-creative, and I’m sure you’ve noticed yourself that cats and wool get along just fine.

If your kitty likes to play with balls of wool, just set aside an inexpensive ball that you’re happy to spare – even though most cats will still play with your other expensive balls of wool. 🙂

Empty spools of yarn also have excellent employment potential for little house kitties. Just please make sure that no toxic ingredients endanger your cat.

But please only allow your cat to play with balls of yarn under supervision, so they don’t strangle themselves or eat wool threads!

Funny game fishing rod

Probably the simplest toy ever, and yet cats can occupy themselves with it forever. For a play fishing rod, all you need is some wool, a round piece of cardboard with a hole in the middle, and a wooden stick that you can easily collect from the ground in pretty much any forest.

Once you have all that, the hardest part is actually done. You now simply wrap the wool around the cardboard ring.

Finally, attach a long ribbon and fasten this to the piece of wood. Of course, you can also attach the fishing rod to a cat tree.

Scented Mint Sock

Cats love scented toys, so why not make them one too?

Take an old discarded wool sock without holes, just fill it with a cup of rice and two teaspoons of catnip. You can get these at pet specialty stores. If you want, you can also add some tincture of valerian, which you can get at the pharmacy.

The sock is then simply knotted shut and it’s done! Of course, you can also knit a single sock yourself for this!

Fluffy wool pompon

If it’s too risky for you to leave your cat alone with a ball of wool, or you also simply don’t want to trip over meter-long threads, you can simply make a pom-pom out of some wool.

This is particularly easy, and children also have fun with it. So if you want to keep cats and children busy, the bobble is definitely a great way to do it. You can find detailed instructions on how to do this at this link.

Of course, if the pom-pom is too boring for you, you can decorate it. Or you can tie the pom-pom with a slightly longer thread and shape it into a mouse.

Crochet Catnip Toys for Cats

You surely know surprise eggs. Children love them, and adults often enjoy them too, so why should it be much different for cats? Just take a yellow plastic surprise egg and crochet around it.

To make the toy extra funny, fill it with rattle stuff beforehand. Cats love everything light that can be pushed around easily and makes funny noises.

For example, fill the egg with a few grains of rice. You can find the complete instructions here.

Cats are not as solitary as they may sometimes seem. They need a company and especially some toys, so that they can properly occupy themselves and not fall into boredom.

In this case, your cat’s psyche suffers and you certainly don’t want that. If you want to do something good for your cat, get her some fun cat toys, or best- make them yourself.
